Pakistan Lose Two in Two as Their Warm-Up Games Conclude

by mishaalmubarak

Pakistan Women could not get home against Scotland Women in what was their second and final warm-up game before they begin their T20 World Cup campaign against India on June 14. Since their 3-0 series whitewash against Zimbabwe at home, the Pakistan Women's team have hardly seen any highs. They lost one game each against the West Indies and Ireland in the Ireland tri-series.

Following that, their next two games were washed out, significantly affecting their preparations for the T20 World Cup. Finally, Sri Lanka eased past them in the first warm-up game with a nine-wicket win, intensifying Pakistan's problems.

Pakistan’s shoddy display

Despite dismissing three batters, including Darcey Carter, who was batting on 45 at that time, for just 16 runs, Pakistan failed to capitalize and lost their momentum further as Captain Kathryn Bryce scored 94 off 43 balls.

Pakistan's batters weren’t any better than their bowling lineup. Not one batter went past 20 runs as they lost three wickets in the powerplay. Fatima Sana scored 12 off 7 balls and looked more comfortable in clearing the gaps, but the 187-run target still seemed a lot. A rain interruption further diminished Pakistan’s chances as they were left short of the DLS target by 41 runs.

Tough group in Women’s T20 World Cup

The defeat against Scotland is their latest setback, which adds further to their worries as they are due to play arch-rivals India in four days. Pakistan are drawn into a tough group where they will face, besides India, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.
