Pakistan file an official complaint over Bangladesh’s late review in the third ODI

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have filed an official complaint with match referee Neeyamur Rashid over the on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena’s decision to allow Bangladesh a late review on the penultimate ball of the match.

As it happened

The incident occurred when Pakistan needed 12 runs off the last couple of deliveries. With Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi on the crease, batting with the No. 11 Abrar Ahmed, a Rishad Hossain delivery was initially called wide by Dharmasena.

However, Bangladesh reviewed the decision. Shaheen protested the team's late call for review, but to no avail.

Pakistan argued in the complaint that the hosts’ decision was made after a replay was shown on the big screen, giving them an advantage in making the decision to review. Additionally, the team also raised concerns that the signal to review might have been made after a 15-second time window, though the broadcast showed no timer.

The DRS eventually showed the ball touching the bottom of Shaheen’s bat, hence ruling out the wide decision and leaving Pakistan to score 12 off the last ball. The visitors eventually lost the game by 11 runs, as Shaheen swung and missed hitting on the last ball and was stumped by the keeper.

Pakistan lose the ODI series

With the defeat, Pakistan lost the ODI series by 2-1, which means Bangladesh have won all the recent bilateral series across formats between the two teams. The last time Pakistan won an away ODI series against Bangladesh was in 2011.
