Pakistan become first team to be whitewashed in two consecutive Test series against Bangladesh
Bangladesh made quick work of Pakistan on the fifth day of the Sylhet Test. The visitors could only score 42 runs before Bangladesh’s bowlers ended their stay, leaving them 78 runs short of the target. Mohammad Rizwan, the only surviving specialist batter, was dismissed in the 97th over as Pakistan’s ninth wicket. After that, the side survived only a few more balls before Khurram Shehzad, Pakistan’s last wicket, walked back.
Rizwan, Sajid delay the inevitable
Rizwan and Sajid Khan collectively did a decent job of extending Pakistan’s resistance. At one point, the scoring rate crept up to 3.8, but no one in their sane mind was expecting Pakistan to get over the line from the position they were in. Soon, the 54-run partnership off just 74 balls was broken, with Sajid edging a Taijul Islam delivery. Taijul completed his five-wicket haul and soon added another wicket to finish with nine wickets in the match.
Bangladesh continue dominance over Pakistan
With this win, Bangladesh have now whitewashed Pakistan twice in a row in Test cricket. Previously, they defeated the side 2-0 in 2024 at Pakistan’s home. A similar result unfolded this time as Pakistan joined Zimbabwe to become the team with four consecutive Test defeats against Bangladesh.
The defeat has dropped Pakistan another spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) table, while Bangladesh cemented their fifth position.
