Pakistan Announces 15-Member Women’s World Cup 2025 Squad with Fatima Sana as Captain
The pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, with Fatima Sana as captain. The tournament will be played from September 30 to November 2. This will be the first time Sana leads Pakistan in a World Cup, after having captained the side earlier this year in the Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Lahore. Before the main event, the team will also play a three-match ODI series against South Africa at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from September 16 to 22.
Uncapped right-handed batter Eyman Fatima, who recently made her T20I debut against Ireland, has also been included in the ODI squad. All of Pakistan’s group matches will be played at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. If the team makes it to the semi-final on October 29 and the final on November 2, those matches will also be held in Colombo. Six players; Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Shawaal Zulfiqar and Syeda Aroob Shah will be playing in their first-ever ODI World Cup.
14-Day Preparatory Camp Set to Begin on August 29
Aroob (21), Shawaal (20), and Eyman (20) all played for Pakistan in the first-ever ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup, which took place in South Africa in January 2023. This time, there are also two changes in the 15-member squad compared to the one that played in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier.
Eyman and Sadaf have been added to the squad, replacing Gull Feroza and Najiha Alvi. Both Gull and Najiha will now be part of the five-member non-travelling reserves, along with Tuba Hassan, Umm-e-Hani, and Waheeda Akhtar.
The 15-member main squad and the five reserves will join a 14-day camp starting Friday, August 29, ahead of the South Africa series. Under the guidance of head coach Muhammad Wasim and his staff, the players will train through practice sessions and 50-over practice matches. Further details about the camp will be shared later. The South Africa women’s team is scheduled to arrive in Lahore on September 12.
