The owners of the Sialkot franchise, one of the two additions to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team roster this year, have revealed that it will be called Sialkot Stallionz.

Sialkot Stallionz and the history attached to it

The announcement, made through the team’s official handle, came a day after speculation rose that the franchise had opted for the same name.

“You guessed it. You waited. Now, I am proud to officially introduce SIALKOT STALLIONZ. Excited to be part of the Pakistan Super League journey.”

The name Sialkot Stallionz has a rich history attached to it. One of the most decorated sides of Pakistan’s T20 competitions, the now-defunct Sialkot Stallions, won the country’s domestic T20 competition five consecutive times between 2005/2006 and 2009/10

During this period, the Sialkot-based team had a winning streak of 25 successive matches, which remains a record for a top-level T20 tournament.

Two most expensive PSL franchises

It is worth mentioning that Sialkot Stallionz is the most expensive PSL franchise, having been sold for PKR 1.85 crore alongside Hyderabad, which was auctioned for PKR 1.75 crore.

OZ Developers, a real estate group owned by Hamza Majeed and Kamil Khan, bought Sialkot in an auction held in Islamabad on January 8.

Both franchises are valued at almost three times that of the next most valuable franchise, Lahore Qalandars.

PSL 11 is slated to begin on March 26, with many landmark changes to the league’s framework set to be part of this season.
