Mushfiqur Rahim Ruled Out of Afghanistan ODIs Due to Finger Fracture

by Staff Writer

Mushfiqur Rahim will miss the rest of the ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE after fracturing his finger during the opening match, which Bangladesh lost by 92 runs. Team physio Delowar Hossain confirmed that Mushfiqur sustained the injury to the tip of his left index finger while wicketkeeping towards the end of Afghanistan's innings. An X-ray revealed a fracture near the DIP joint, ruling him out of the second and third ODIs. Updates on his recovery timeline will be shared later.

During the match, Mushfiqur batted at No. 7, and Bangladesh collapsed, losing their last eight wickets for just 23 runs. He was stumped for 1 after facing only three balls.

Trailing 0-1 in the three-match series, Bangladesh has not announced a replacement for Mushfiqur. With Litton Das also absent due to illness, Jaker Ali is likely to take over the wicketkeeping responsibilities.

Mushfiqur's injury raises concerns about his participation in Bangladesh's upcoming tour of the West Indies for two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is later this month. He retired from T20I cricket in 2022.
