Mumbai Star Yashasvi Jaiswal Ruled Out of Ranji Knockout Stage
Mumbai’s cricket team will play the Ranji Trophy semi-final without Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-handed batsman, who was left out of India’s Champions Trophy squad, won’t be part of the match against Vidarbha. Earlier, Jaiswal played in the first game of the second leg against Jammu and Kashmir, alongside Rohit Sharma.
According to the Times of India, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been ruled out of the semi-final against Vidarbha due to pain in his left ankle. The report mentions that he will now travel to the NCA in Bengaluru for further evaluation of his injury. This is a last-minute setback for defending champions Mumbai as they prepare to face a determined Karun Nair and his team.
Jaiswal Replaced in India’s Champions Trophy Squad
Jaiswal was replaced by Varun Chakravarthy in India’s final squad for the Champions Trophy. He was named as a non-traveling reserve alongside Shivam Dube and Mohammed Siraj. Earlier, the left-hander made his ODI debut in the first match against England. In the only Ranji Trophy game he played during the second leg, he scored 30 runs across two innings.
Earlier, Mumbai chief selector Sanjay Patil had said, “Yashasvi’s inclusion in this crucial game would be beneficial and boost the team’s morale.” However, with Jaiswal now ruled out, Mumbai will have to move forward without him.
The semi-final encounter between Vidarbha and Mumbai will start on January 17 (Monday) in Nagpur. The defending champions Mumbai qualified for the semis after beating Haryana in the quarterfinal. Ayush Mhatre and Akash Anand will remain the team's opening pair in the absence of Jaiswal.
