Mumbai Indians sign Keshav Maharaj as Mitchell Santner ruled out with shoulder injury

Mumbai Indians have signed Keshav Maharaj for the rest of IPL 2026 after Mitchell Santner got ruled out due to a shoulder injury. The New Zealand all-rounder had hurt his left shoulder while taking a catch against the Chennai Super Kings on April 23. 

Santner was replaced with Shardul Thakur during the match, as he’d hurt his head, and the concussion substitution rule came into effect. Subsequently, Santner missed the Gujarat Titans match on April 26.

“Mumbai Indians wish Santner a full recovery and look forward to seeing him back in action soon.” the franchise said in a statement.

Keshav Maharaj was not picked in the IPL 2026 auction and has played only 2 matches for Rajasthan Royals in 2024. He has now joined Mumbai Indians for INR 75 lakh.

The South African spinner was also part of South Africa national cricket team in the 2026 T20 World Cup and recently captained the team in a 5-match away series against New Zealand national cricket team.
