Former India captain and Ranchi’s own MS Dhoni was expected to be at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium for the first ODI between India and South Africa. But new reports say he may not attend after all. Team India will travel to Ranchi for the series opener, followed by the next two ODIs in Raipur and Visakhapatnam.

Even though the matches are being played at less common venues, the excitement is still high, especially with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returning to play at home for the first time since the England series.

Ranchi will be hosting its first-ever international Test in 2024 and its first ODI game after 3 years; hence, it was much anticipated that Ranchi's homeboy MS Dhoni is likely to make an appearance during the first ODI. Ever since the Indian team reached Ranchi, fans have been talking about their meeting with MS Dhoni. Dhoni, who is currently in his hometown, invited Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant to his house for dinner.

When reporters asked KL Rahul if Dhoni would come to the JSCA Stadium for the first ODI, even he turned into a fan while praising the former India captain. Rahul also made his India debut under Dhoni’s leadership.

Dhoni continues to be a big inspiration for everyone in Indian cricket. However, ruining all expectations, RevSportz reporter Subhayan Chakraborty came in with disheartening news.

KL Rahul, who is leading India in the ODI series, attended the pre-match press conference where he was asked about Rishabh Pant’s return to the ODI team.

"You’ll get to know tomorrow who will play, whether it’s me or him behind the stumps, but obviously, he is good enough to play as a batter as well. Further, they wanted to know if the seasoned Indian batter would keep the wickets himself if Rishabh Pant took over as the gloveman while he takes the field. Rahul was quite straightforward in answering this, as he revealed, "If he is in the eleven, then obviously he will take the gloves, and I will be in the field.," Rahul said.
