In an interview with Rediff.com, Kirsten spoke about his bond with the legendary Indian cricketer. “He was a mercurial, generational talent as a leader. He did things that others wanted to follow, and it was great working with him. I think we had a good relationship. It took a while, but we got along well,” he said.

Kirsten also recalled an incident when Dhoni cancelled a training camp before the 2011 World Cup. “We wanted to practice at the Bangalore Air Force Academy, and the players were excited. The security officials asked all the foreigners, who were part of the coaching staff, for their passports. We were told that the coaches couldn’t be allowed to enter the area due to security concerns. Dhoni stood up and cancelled the session. It showed where we were as a team at that time,” he added.
