Mayank Yadav's Fitness in Doubt, Likely to Miss IND vs ENG T20Is: Reports

Mayank Yadav may face a setback as he is likely to miss India's squad for the T20I series against England starting on January 22. The pacer has been under rehabilitation for a back injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) last year.
According to the Times of India, a BCCI official has confirmed Mayank is still recovering and unlikely to be fit for the series in time. Also, he has not been included in Delhi’s probable squad for their second-leg Ranji Trophy opener on January 23. Yadav is expected to make a comeback during IPL 2025.
“He is suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn’t even been named amongst the probables of Delhi’s first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 2023,” the official said.
Selectors to Announce IND vs ENG T20I Squad Soon
Mayank last played in the T20I series at home against Bangladesh in 2024. The injury-prone pacer was ruled out midway through the tournament last year, known for his 150+ kmph deliveries in the IPL. He briefly returned for the series against Bangladesh, but then picked up another injury, keeping him out of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Selectors are expected to announce the squad for the T20I series against England in a few days. It is likely that the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy and IND vs ENG ODIs will be finalized after January 18-19 as BCCI is to request an extension from ICC as January 12 is the deadline for team submissions.
