“Marriage Wouldn’t Have Lasted If True”: Yuzvendra Chahal Responds to Ex-Wife Dhanashree Verma’s Cheating Claims
Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has responded to the cheating claims made by his ex-wife, Dhanashree Verma, calling them false and tiring. He said their marriage would not have lasted as long as it did if he had cheated early on and that he has now moved on with his life. Dhanashree had recently said on the OTT show Rise and Fall that Chahal cheated on her two months after their wedding, which led to a lot of talk online.
However, Yuzvendra Chahal rejected the cheating accusations made by his ex-wife. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said their marriage would not have continued if those claims were true and mentioned that the issue is now “over and done.”
“I am a sportsperson and I do not cheat. Agar koi two months mein hi cheat karta toh itna lamba relationship chalta kya? (If you get caught in the second month, how could the relationship last?) For me, this chapter is over, done and dusted. I have moved forward with my life and everyone else should too,” Chahal said.
Chahal Opens Up About His 4.5-Year Marriage
Chahal and Dhanashree’s story began during the COVID-19 lockdown when he joined her online dance classes. What started as a simple connection soon turned into love and the two tied the knot on December 22, 2020. Sadly, their relationship couldn’t last and the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai officially granted their divorce on March 20, 2025.
Yuzvendra Chahal mentioned that their marriage lasted about four and a half years. He said some people still hold on to the past, but he isn’t bothered by the ongoing talk or rumors. The cricketer also made it clear that this would be the last time he speaks about the issue.
"Hamari shaadi 4.5 years ki thi. Agar two months mein cheat hua hota toh kaun continue karta? Main pehle bhi bol chuka hoon ki main past se nikal chuka hoon. But some people are still stuck there. Abhi bhi kai log uss cheez ko pakde hue hain, abhi bhi unka ghar mere naam se chal raha hai toh they can continue doing that. I am not concerned or affected. And I have a feeling this is the last time I am addressing that chapter of my life." he added.
"Main iss chapter ko bhula chuka hoon. Koi kuch bhi keh deta hai, and social media pe chal jata hai. 100 baatein chalti hain, but the truth is only one, and those who matter know it. Mere liye chapter closed hai. I don't want to address it ever again," adding, "I am focusing on my life and on my game." he concluded.
Yuzvendra Chahal has not featured in India’s team since August 2023, but he was included in the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad and has remained active, taking 16 wickets for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 and representing Northamptonshire in county cricket. Off the field, his personal life drew attention after his split from Dhanashree Verma when he was seen with RJ Mahvash at the Champions Trophy final, but Mahvash clarified they are just friends.
