Major Setback for SRH: Brydon Carse Ruled Out of IPL 2025, Wiaan Mulder Named Replacement
IPL 2024 runner-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Thursday selected 27-year-old South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder to replace England's Brydon Carse, who got a toe injury and was ruled out of the ongoing Champions Trophy. Because of the injury, Carse will also miss IPL 2025. Mulder, his replacement, will join Hyderabad for Rs 75 lakh. Carse was bought at his starting price of Rs 1 crore in the IPL 2025 mega-auction last year.
"Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) picked Wiaan Mulder as a replacement for Brydon Carse for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Carse is ruled out of the TATA IPL 2025 due to an injury and his replacement Mulder, who is an all-rounder, will join SRH for INR 75 Lakh," the IPL's statement said.

Mulder has played 11 T20Is, along with 18 Test matches and 25 ODIs. He has taken 60 wickets in international cricket and scored 970 runs. Earlier, Carse missed England’s practice session on February 24 due to the injury, which has needed regular treatment throughout his career.
Although Carse was considered fit to play against Australia on Saturday, February 22, he was clearly struggling on the field and in his performance. He ended up as the most expensive bowler of the match, with an economy rate of 9.85. The toe issue began as a blister during the recent white-ball series in India, which required stitches and caused him to miss the last two ODIs. Reports suggest that the injury has worsened and may need further treatment.
As a result, Carse was removed from England’s 15-man squad before their Group B match against Afghanistan in Lahore. England played their last game against South Africa in Karachi on Saturday, March 1. This setback comes at the end of a successful but exhausting winter for Carse. After serving a three-month ban late last year for past gambling violations, he has been traveling continuously since the end of the previous season.
An all-rounder from Gauteng, Mulder made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in East London in 2017. In his first match, he bowled a tight spell of 8 overs, giving away just 32 runs and taking the wicket of Mahmudullah. Mulder has played 128 T20 matches, scoring 2,172 runs in 105 innings at a strike rate of 132.92, along with taking 67 wickets. He entered the auction with a base price of Rs 75 lakh, but no team initially placed a bid for him. Hyderabad will start their campaign at home against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, March 23.
