LSG Prioritizes Winning Mentality in Player Retentions

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have emphasized retaining players with a winning mindset who prioritize team success over personal ambitions, according to franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka. This announcement came as the team revealed its retention list ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
In a surprising move, LSG released KL Rahul, the captain since the team's inception in 2022, after a seventh-place finish in IPL 2024. Rahul is expected to be a major attraction in the upcoming auction.
Nicholas Pooran was an "automatic choice" for retention, with the decision taking just "two minutes," Goenka stated. "Our strategy was straightforward: select players who are winners and team-first. We aimed to keep as much of our core intact within our budget. Our strong bowling lineup led us to retain three bowlers—Bishnoi, Mayank, and Mohsin—all Indian players. Pooran was an obvious choice. Ayush has been impressive for us in the lower order."
Despite Rahul being LSG’s top scorer in IPL 2024 with 520 runs at a 136 strike rate, Pooran's 499 runs came with a striking rate of 178.
Mayank debuted in IPL 2024, playing only four games before an injury sidelined him. However, he made a significant impact with his 150kph deliveries, earning two Player-of-the-Match awards.
Mohsin and Bishnoi each claimed ten wickets in IPL 2024...
