Sri Lanka's newly appointed T20I captain, Kusal Mendis, credits his strong run in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League for his improved T20 form. Mendis, who will lead the side against West Indies in a three-match T20I series from June 11 to June 14, was a crucial player for his PSL franchise, Peshawar Zalmi, this year.

Mendis’ time in the PSL

He finished as the league's second-highest run-scorer of the season, having scored 550 runs in 11 games at an average of 55.00 and striking at the rate of 168.19. His stint included four half-centuries and one century, helping his side win the title.

This was Mendis' second PSL appearance, though it was his first season with Zalmi. In the previous edition, the wicketkeeper batter was part of Quetta Gladiators, where he notched impactful innings as well. Mendis scored 143 runs in eight games with a 168 strike rate.

"I scored over 500 runs in the PSL. It was the best tournament I have ever played. I gained great experience and learned a lot from the Pakistan players," Mendis said during a recent media appearance prior to Sri Lanka's departure for the tour.
