Sanju Samson, despite being in great form, was surprisingly left out of India's Champions Trophy squad for 2025. For the tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to stick with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as the team's wicket-keeping options. All three players have their own strengths, and looking at their stats in the 50-over format will help in understanding their role in the team.

Sanju Samson’s ODI Performance

In his 16 ODI matches, Samson has been the standout performer scoring 510 runs at an average of 56.67. His highest score is 108, and he has one century and three half-centuries. What is strikingly evident, however, is his aggressive intent his strike rate of 99.61 makes him a strong contender in any limited-overs format. A reliable performer behind the stumps, he has taken 9 catches and made 2 stumpings.

Rishabh Pant’s ODI Performance

Pant is the aggressive approach specialist for India who has played 40 ODIs and has amassed 1547 runs at an average of 45.42 with a highest of 78, two centuries, and eight half-centuries. He continues to change the game with a strike rate of 95.05. He is also a good wicketkeeper with 27 catches and 1 stumping.

KL Rahul’s ODI Performance

In ODIs, KL Rahul has been a consistent performer with 77 matches and scoring 2851 runs with an average of 49.16. His highest score has been 112 and has also scored seven centuries and 18 half-centuries. At an impressive 87.56, it has been considerably more meager; nevertheless, nothing seemed to faze Rahul because whenever he stepped in the middle, he certainly used his spot effectively and produced helpful partnerships that worked for his side. On account of wicketkeeping also, he was efficient in achieving 27 catches and 3 stumpings as well.
