Khushdil Shah shines with both bat and ball in Rangpur’s win over Dhaka

by mishaalmubarak

Khushdil Shah’s all-round performance, along with Mahmudullah’s vital knock, helped Rangpur Riders subdue Dhaka Capitals in a closely contested Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) game.

Mahmudullah, Malan brewed a crucial partnership

Batting first, Rangpur lost three of their batters within the powerplay for just 30 runs. Following the early fall of wickets, Mahmudullah and Dawid Malan restored the batting lineup to working order. Mahmudullah top-scored with 51 off 41 balls, while Malan added a run-a-ball 33.

However, it was Khushdil Shah’s blitz that handed Rangpur back their momentum. The spin all-rounder struck two maximums and four sixes in his 21-ball stay, adding 38 crucial runs to the total.

Khushdil’s maiden BPL 11 wicket

Setting out to defend the 156-run target, Rangpur’s bowlers strayed off the trail in the powerplay. Al Islam conceded 23 runs in his first two overs as Dhaka scored 53 runs in the powerplay. However, Kyle Mayers and Khushdil Shah paired up to take one wicket each in the next two overs.

Although Khushdil did not get another wicket, he bowled two more economical overs, which eventually helped Rangpur triumph over Dhaka by five runs.

The all-rounder has been averaging a staggering 70 with a strike rate of 172 in the BPL season, though he picked up his maiden wicket of the season against Dhaka.

With this victory, Rangpur Riders now occupy second place in the BPL points table, having won three out of their four games.
