Karachi Kings captain David Warner arrested for DUI by NSW Police

by mishaalmubarak

Australian player David Warner, who is currently captaining Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has been arrested by New South Wales (NSW) Police for driving under the influence in Sydney.

Warner left for Australia for a week

Warner earlier left his PSL team and flew back home to attend to personal business and was scheduled to return to Pakistan ahead of Karachi’s next game on April 9. Karachi last played a game on April 2.

As reported by Australian media, Warner failed a random breathalyser test as twice the legal limit of blood alcohol was shown in the test. He was then taken to Maroubra Police Station.

While not officially confirmed, Warner is understood to join his side before the April 9 game against Peshawar Zalmi, which will be his team’s first home game of the season.

Will the arrest affect Warner’s PSL stint?

He has been ordered to appear before court on May 7, but the arrest should not affect his return to Pakistan for the PSL. Additionally, should Karachi make it past the group stages, the Australian batter is likely to be available for the playoffs as well, with the final set to be played on May 3.

Karachi are currently the only team, besides Zalmi, to be undefeated in the tournament. They have won all three of their games, and Warner has played a crucial role in those, both as a captain and batter. He scored a 50 off 36 balls against Rawalpindiz, which was his last game before flying to Australia.
