Josh Inglis Confirms IPL 2026 Auction Availability After PBKS Exit
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has joined the IPL 2026 Auction after being released by Punjab Kings. The auction will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16. PBKS let go of Inglis because head coach Ricky Ponting said he would not be available for most of the IPL season from March to May.
Josh Inglis Enters IPL 2026 Auction After PBKS Release, Available for Only 4 Matches
Inglis has registered for the auction with a base price of ₹2 crore but will be available to play only 4 matches, around two weeks. He cannot play the full season as he is getting married during this time. PBKS had bought him for ₹2.6 crore last season.
Inglis played 11 matches for PBKS in his debut IPL season, scoring 278 runs at an average of 30.88. He had a fast strike rate of 162.57, which helped the team in the middle overs. He also scored 73 off 42 balls against Mumbai Indians in the last league match, helping PBKS win.
According to Cricbuzz, Punjab Kings wanted to keep Josh Inglis, but coach Ricky Ponting decided not to at the last minute because Inglis would not be available for the full season. Since he can play only four matches, it is unlikely he will be bought. But teams may still want him for their plans next season.
Ponting said in a statement.
“Josh is a great player. I would have loved to keep him in our squad. But this year he could not play most of the tournament. That is why it was impossible to retain him,”
Now that Inglis is back in the auction and will miss most of the season, Punjab Kings will look for a strong middle-order batter. They have also released Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Hardie.
Other players like Adam Milne, Ashton Agar, and Rilee Rossouw have also said they will be available only for part of the season. Rossouw, who last played for PBKS in IPL 2024, has registered for the auction and will play 8–10 games in IPL 2026.
