Jaydev Unadkat Focuses on Saurashtra's Youthful Transition Amidst Ranji Struggles

Saurashtra's 2024-25 Ranji Trophy campaign has commenced on a less-than-ideal note, with the team positioned seventh in their group after drawing two matches and losing two. Despite the rocky start, captain Jaydev Unadkat remains optimistic about the team's future, emphasizing a strategic focus on nurturing young talent during this transitional phase.

Reflecting on the current season, Unadkat shared his vision with ESPNcricinfo, stating, "Efforts are being made to give opportunities to youngsters. As captain, I want this change to be smooth. We want young players to come forward, and we want them to be given maximum opportunities. I want young players to settle in our team during my captaincy."

Saurashtra's strategy has already seen three new players debut in the season's opening matches. Among them, pace bowlers Navneet Vora and Hiten Kanbi, alongside batter Parswaraj Rana, are key components of Saurashtra's evolving roster. Vora has managed to take three wickets in two games with an average of 41, while Rana, although struggling, contributed 21 runs over two innings against Tamil Nadu. Kanbi showcased significant potential during his debut against Jharkhand, securing impressive figures of 5 for 70 in the first innings and adding another wicket in the second.

Since 2018-19, Saurashtra has reached the finals three times, clinching the title in the 2019-20 and 2022-23 seasons under Unadkat's leadership.
