Jasprit Bumrah update: Bumrah Arrives in Bengaluru for Scans and Further Assessment, Set to Stay at NCA
Jasprit Bumrah arrived in Bengaluru on the evening of Sunday, February 2, and is now scheduled to undergo scans and a thorough evaluation by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team.
According to the Times of India, Bumrah was selected for India's Champions Trophy squad last month. However, playing in the tournament will depend on the results of the scans and assessment he undergoes at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) this week.
It is reliably understood that the 31-year-old will be there for at least three days and the NCA specialists will then submit their observations to the men's senior selection committee chaired by Ajit Agarkar.
At a press conference in Mumbai last month, Agarkar shared that Bumrah had been advised to "take a break for five weeks" following the Sydney Test. He also mentioned that they expected to have more clarity on the situation in "early February."
"Bumrah has been told to off-load for five weeks after and he won't be available for the first two ODIs against England. We are waiting on his fitness and will know his status in early February from the medical team. We'll probably find out a bit more around that time, what exactly, and with regards to what his medical condition is, I'm sure BCCI might just put something out, from the physio itself," Agarkar had said.
The selectors have just over a week to decide on Bumrah's inclusion in the squad, as they need to submit the final 15-member list for the Champions Trophy to the ICC. If Bumrah isn't fit, Harshit Rana, who was named in the squad for the England ODIs, could replace him.
Rohit Sharma and his team have already begun gearing up for the upcoming ICC event. They’re currently holding a brief camp in Nagpur ahead of their three-match ODI series against England.
The Indian team is expected to head to Dubai on February 15 and set up camp there for the duration of the tournament. If they make it to the final, both the semi-final and the title match will also be held in Dubai.
