Ishan Kishan Stars as Sunrisers Hyderabad Beat Chennai Super Kings to Seal Playoff Spot

Chennai Super Kings lost their final home game of the season as Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a crucial 5-wicket win. With this victory, SRH qualified for the playoffs alongside Gujarat Titans. SRH also completed a season double over CSK.

Earlier in the day, CSK won the toss and opted to bat first. Sanju Samson gave them a brisk start, finding boundaries with ease in the powerplay but his stay was cut short as Pat Cummins dismissed him for 27 off 13 balls in the 3rd over. Urvil Patel showed intent with a couple of sixes but fell for 13 off 8, as CSK reached 57/2 at the end of the powerplay.

Ruturaj Gaikwad struggled to get going, while Kartik Sharma looked promising before departing for 32 off 19 balls. Dewald Brevis top-scored with a fluent 44 off 27 balls, including a couple of fours and four sixes. Shivam Dube batted deep but couldn’t accelerate enough, finishing with 26 off 23, as CSK posted 180/7. Pat Cummins was the standout performer with the ball, picking up 3/28.

In reply, Travis Head came in as the impact sub for the Sunrisers Hyderabad but fell early for 6. Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma steadied things with a 38-run stand, though both were relatively watchful in the powerplay. Abhishek couldn’t quite find rhythm and was dismissed for 26 off 21 balls soon after. Ishan Kishan then found a strong partner in Heinrich Klaasen and the duo shifted the momentum decisively. Klaasen, in particular, took on the spinners aggressively as they added 75 runs off 41 balls. Noor Ahmad broke the stand by stumping Klaasen for 47 off 26 in the 15th over.

Kishan continued to anchor the chase, bringing up a well-paced fifty off 37 balls. With 38 needed off 24 balls, CSK tried to stretch the game deep. Mukesh Choudhary picked up the wicket of Nitish Kumar Reddy for 11 in the 18th over, but conceded back-to-back boundaries to Kishan, which proved decisive. Ishan Kishan (70 off 47) finished as the top scorer in the chase, guiding SRH to a 5-wicket win with 8 balls to spare.

This defeat for CSK has certainly dented their playoff hopes at a crucial stage of the tournament. On the other hand, MS Dhoni is still in his CSK gear and hasn’t switched to his training kit yet, which is raising quite a few eyebrows.
