India might not be the favourite against Australia in the second semifinal of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. But the hosts could even lose without playing a single ball, as heavy rain is expected on October 30 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. On October 30, Navi Mumbai is likely to be around 32°C, according to AccuWeather. The not-so-great news is that there’s a 69% chance of rain during the day. It’s expected to stay cloudy, with rain possibly coming on and off throughout.

The ICC has set a reserve day for the India vs Australia semifinal. If the game can’t be finished on October 30, it will be played the next day. But what happens if it rains on the reserve day too?

What Happens If India vs Australia Is Washed Out?

If rain washes out either semifinal, the team that ranked higher in the points table will go straight to the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup final. Since Australia finished first and India fourth, Australia will advance if their match is cancelled.

In the same way, if the England vs South Africa semifinal is abandoned or has no result, England will go to the final.

Is There a Reserve Day for the India vs Australia Women’s World Cup 2025 Semifinal?

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has clear rules for knockout matches affected by rain. If rain interrupts a match, officials will try their best to finish it on the same day, even if the overs are reduced. But if the match still can’t be completed, it will continue on the reserve day.

  • The Guwahati semi-final has its reserve day on Thursday, October 30.

  • The Navi Mumbai semi-final has its reserve day on Friday, October 31.

If a semi-final starts as a 50-over game and rain stops play, say the match is reduced to 46 overs per side, and no more play is possible that day, it will restart as a full 50-over match on the reserve day. However, if the game resumes after being reduced and rain stops play again, the reduced overs will continue on the next day.

To get a result, at least 20 overs per side must be played. If rain washes out play on both days, the team that finished higher in the group stage will go to the final. Based on current standings:

  • England would advance from the first semi-final.

  • Australia would go through from the second.

The final will be played on November 2 in Navi Mumbai, with a reserve day on November 3. If both days are washed out, the trophy will be shared between the two teams.
