The issue about using M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for Indian Premier League 2026 is still not clear. Even though the Karnataka government has given approval, the matches may still not happen there. This is because there are some unresolved problems between the franchise, the stadium authorities, and the government.

“You have to speak to RCB,” said a top KSCA official hinting at lack of clarity on the subject. “The KSCA has got the government permission to host the IPL matches. However, all the works to be undertaken and completed are under progress and will be completed as per schedule.”

RCB may not play IPL 2026 matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium

Right now, some repair work is happening at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and it will finish only by the end of the month. Because of the incident on June 4, 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru want a full and clear permission to host matches, not a conditional approval.

In fact, they seem to be exploring Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, as a potential alternate. A similar situation has erupted in the case of RR. They have sought indemnity from the Rajasthan government, to host their matches at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. There is a possibility, that RR could be playing four of their seven matches in Jaipur.

“Given the identified and compliance risks, any decision by the BCCI for RR to host matches at SMS Stadium should be subject to a formal indemnity from the state or stadium authority, protecting RR from liability arising from structural, life-safety, electrical or public safety failures beyond our operational control,” a note given by the franchise to the BCCI states.
