IPL 2026 Auction: MI’s Most Expensive Player Season-wise (2008–2025)

The Mumbai Indians have proven to be one of the most successful franchises ever in the Indian Premier League, winning five championships - the most by any team. They accomplished a great deal of that under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, but the way they approach the auction process and evaluate players contributed equally to their success.
The Mumbai Indians have established a system with the goal of identifying and cultivating new talent and allowing a platform for players to showcase their ability. For a long time, their auction process has been about balancing, spending smartly, and trusting their scouting network instead of simply looking for big-name players or paying exorbitant wages for those players.
Their scouting network, who include members such as John Wright and Rahul Sanghvi, have been responsible for identifying determined young stars, including Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Ishan Kishan, that became integral match-winners. There have been times when the Mumbai Indians have gone big at the auction and have not gotten the performance they expected from the player, though.
Regardless, their long-term thinking paid off in spades from 2017-2020 when they enjoyed absolute dominance and won three IPL championships in 4 years. Another massive asset is their fielding and culture. Under Rohit Sharma, players were given the confidence and freedom to play. Now, with Hardik Pandya as the current captain, the Mumbai Indians should again have a competitive advantage.
