Even if the Indian team had scored 47 runs less, it would still have been the highest total in a T20 World Cup knockout match. The Men in Blue didn’t just break the record, they smashed it easily. And the scary part? The defending champions are still not at their best. Their perfect game is yet to come. Well, that’s a thing of the past now. India just smashed 253 runs in 20 overs against England in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026. No team has ever hit more sixes, 88, than India has in the 2026 edition of the ICC tournament.
The record of 76 by the West Indies was breached after India struck 19 sixes, the joint most, against England today. 253 isn’t just the highest total in T20 World Cup knockouts but also the fourth highest in the tournament’s history.
It was the 6th time India breached the 250-run mark in T20Is. Across all forms of T20 cricket, no team has done that. Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 champions, have done so 5 times. Among international teams, the West Indies and Zimbabwe have reached there thrice.
