IND vs NZ Final: Mitchell Santner Provides Update On Matt Henry's Injury Update
New Zealand pacer Matt Henry injured his right shoulder when he was fielding during the Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The 33-year-old was injured in the 29th over when he completed a low catch off Heinrich Klaasen. He was in immediate pain, the physios ran in to check on him and he had to leave the field.
Henry is the leading wicket-taker of the tournament, having scalped 10 wickets in four matches.
He bowled just seven overs in the match, which is a big worry for the team before the Champions Trophy final against India on March 9. Captain Mitchell Santner shared an update on his fitness, saying that he has a sore shoulder. The team management will wait for a couple of days to assess the injury properly.
“Have to wait and see how Matt Henry's shoulder is. It's a bit sore, we have to wait for a couple of days and see,” Santner said in the post-match presentation.
The New Zealand captain was happy with his team's performance. They played well and defeated South Africa by 50 runs. South Africa had a tough time throughout the match, but David Miller fought hard and scored a brilliant 100 runs, preventing an even bigger loss. In the end, Mitchell Santner was glad that every player played their part in the victory.
“We took wickets in the middle overs and made it tough for the opposition. What we speak as a group is to apply pressure and take wickets in the middle. Michael Bracewell bowled really well in the last game to take a 4-fer. It was really pleasing for me to take three scalps today. It makes my job easier, we have four all-rounders who can bowl spin and they can bat as well. Rachin's five overs were great,” Santner said.
