This is the true beauty of Test cricket. The England team, which looked ahead in the match until Day 4, completely collapsed on Day 5. On the final day of the Oval Test, Team India defeated England by 6 runs. When Prasidh Krishna clean bowled Josh Tongue as the last wicket, the celebration of the Indian team was a sight to behold. In the dressing room, head coach Gautam Gambhir and the players were seen jumping with joy. This is India’s narrowest win ever in terms of runs in Test cricket. With this, the 5-match series ended in a 2-2 draw.

On the final day, England needed 35 runs with 4 wickets in hand. Mohammed Siraj bowled brilliantly for India and was the biggest hero in securing the win for Team India. India had set a target of 374 runs for England in the final innings. Notably, earlier in the series, under the captaincy of young Shubman Gill, India had defeated England at Edgbaston, while the Manchester Test ended in a draw.

India needed 4 wickets, England needed 35 runs – Siraj did wonders

England had scored 339 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 76.2 overs by the end of Day 4. Due to rain, play had to be called off early. On the final day, India needed 4 wickets to win, while England required 35 runs. When the match resumed, Jamie Overton hit back-to-back boundaries on the first and second deliveries bowled by Prasidh Krishna, causing a moment of silence in the Indian camp.

However, on the third ball of the 78th over, a brilliant delivery by Mohammad Siraj took the edge of Jamie Smith’s bat and went straight to wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, who made no mistake in taking the catch. When the third umpire declared Jamie out, Team India’s celebration was a sight to behold. Even the fans in the stadium were dancing with joy.

Siraj and Prasidh Shine as India Seal Dramatic Win

Mohammad Siraj produced another moment of magic. In the 80th over, he trapped Jamie Overton LBW, with the decision once again confirmed by the third umpire. After that, Prasidh Krishna did something spectacular by uprooting Tongue’s stumps.

After that, the injured Chris Woakes walked onto the field to bat with one hand. It was a scene reminiscent of Rishabh Pant in the previous match, where he had limped onto the field and smashed a half-century. Meanwhile, Gus Atkinson played a shot that went toward the boundary, and Akash Deep couldn’t take the catch there. The ball went over the ropes for six, leaving Indian fans stunned.

But when Prasidh Krishna bowled out Josh Tongue, the Indian team erupted in celebration. In the second innings, Mohammad Siraj took 5 wickets, Prasidh Krishna claimed 4, and Akash Deep picked up 1.

Siraj Reflects on Belief, Simplicity, and Emotional Moments After Victory

"To be honest, I feel so amazing. Everyone thought from day 1 till this moment, we will fight hard. I am very happy. My plan was simple, to keep it simple. Hit the right areas, I knew it will work and the result is there for everyone to see. If I get a wicket, it will be bonus for me. Just wanted to keep it tight," Siraj added.

"When I woke up today, I thought I can do it. I had the belief. I put an image of something with the word believe in it and put it as my wallpaper. I enjoyed it a lot. (On his dropped catch of Brooks) That was a game-changing moment, because if I had taken that catch, the match would have been over by now. Hats off to Harry Brook for playing like that, " he added.

"(On Lord's ) It is a very heartbreaking moment. Jaddu bhai was telling me to play as much as possible with the bat. Think of your father, how hard you have worked to get here. (On getting a promotion in his rank in Hyderabad Police) I don't know (chuckles)," he said.
