In a dramatic injury, the South African All-rounder will miss the series.

After a dominating win against Sri Lanka, South Africa’s test campaign has been hit by an unexpected injury of all-rounder Wiaan Mulder. He is now ruled out of remainder of the test series due to a fractured right middle finger. All-rounder got injured during the first innings of the Durban test match, In this critical situation, the team would need to rethink their bowling strategy for the remainder of the series.


The ‘test’ Delivery during the Test Match
In a dramatic sequence, during the innings, Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara bowled a trial delivery to Mulder. The bowl was released at a speed of 140 Kmph, it nipped back sharply and jammed Mulder’s finger against the bat handle. Mulder wasn't comfortable after the hit and due to this, the game stopped for almost ten minutesfi=or his treatment on the ground, though he tried to bat again he knew something was not right with his fingers and so he went back to the dressing room as retired hurt.

Commitment to the Team


While in pain, Mulder was determined and committed to supporting the team when needed, after the fall of the 9th wicket Mulder came back to bat again despite being injured he tried to resist and even hit a six off the ball of de Silva, finishing his innings at 9 runs. After the end of the play when the Mulrder went for a scan, it was confirmed that he got a fracture and he will be no longer available for the rest of the test match and series.

New Plans Needed

While the earlier plan of the South Africa team was playing with four pacers and one spinner but now Mulder being injured, they need to reach out about their strategy as it presents a significant challenge for the team. Team challenges might get worse as pacer Gerald Coetzee has also developed a groin niggle during the Durban test. This created concerns in the team about the availability of Coetzee in the next game.

Captain Temba Bavuma acknowledges the challenging situation ahead, stating while Mulder’s absence is confirmed the medical team is still working on Coetzee’s condition. For the South African team, the timing of the injury is crucial as the team is eyeing clean sleep in the series to enhance their chances for the WTC final.

The Second Test, scheduled from December 5-9,will surely tests South Africa.Since Mulder's recovery period will take at least a month and clouds over Gerald Coetzee's condition, the bench strength will get the chance to showcase the talent and feel the pressure.
