Captain NatSciver-Brunt (117 runs) scored a record fifth century in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup and left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone (four wickets for 17 runs) scored a hat-trick as four-time champions England beat Sri Lanka by 89 runs in the group match on Saturday. England beat South Africa and Bangladesh in their first two matches. After being invited to bat, Cyver Brunt helped England post a competitive score of 253 runs for nine wickets.
NatSciver-Brunt bowled brilliantly with Ecclestone as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 164 in 45.5 overs and suffered their second defeat of the tournament. Ecclestone bowled brilliantly and took four wickets for 17 runs in 10 overs (three maidens). NatSciver-Brunt picked up two wickets for 25 runs in five overs which earned him the 'Player of the Match' for his all-round performance.
Charlie Dean also took two wickets while Lynsey Smith and Alice Capsey got one wicket each. Sri Lanka didn't get off to a good start and skipper Chamri Atapattu retired hurt as the team scored 18 runs. However, she later came out to play but became Ecclestone's fourth victim. Charlie Dean bowled Vishmi Gunaratne to give Sri Lanka their first blow in the 10th over of the innings.
Openers Hasini Perera (35 runs) and Harshita Samarwickrama (33 runs) had added 58 runs for the third wicket. But Ecclestone dismissed Perera to break the partnership and dismissed Samarwickrama as well. Ecclestone then bowled Kavisha Dilhari and Atapattu to take Sri Lanka to 116 for five. Captain NatSciver-Bruntagain contributed to the bowling and dismissed Anushka Sanjeevani and Devami Vihanga, which made Sri Lanka lose their seventh wicket for 145 runs and failed in the face of such a big score. England scored 253 runs.
England lost the toss and batted first and scored 253 runs for 9 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. NatSciver-Brunt played an amazing knock of 117 runs. Apart from this, Tammy Beaumont scored 32 runs. Inoka Ranveera took 3 wickets for Sri Lanka. 2-2 wickets Udeshika Prabodhani and Sugandika Kumari took 2 wickets each. 1 wicket was taken by Kavisha Dilhari.
