ICC T20 World Cup Super 8 Group 1 Fixtures Announced, India to Face South Africa on Feb 22
The match between Zimbabwe and Ireland was called off due to rain in Kandy. No balls were bowled and both teams received a point each. With this point, Zimbabwe went through to the Super 8s along with Sri Lanka and caused a knockout for Australia.
Australia has now missed out on reaching the Super 8 in a T20 World Cup 3 times, with the last instance occurring in 2009. The 2007 Australian team was severely diminished during this tournament due to losses against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. While Zimbabwe can take pride in its ability to reach the Super 8 for a third consecutive time.
Currently, there are 7 teams that have qualified for the Super 8, and only 1 from Group A. It is likely that Pakistan will qualify.
The first match of the Super 8s will starts from February 21, followed by another match on February 22 between India and South Africa in Ahmedabad. India will face off against Zimbabwe and the West Indies after that, which will determine who will go to the semifinals.
