ICC Players of the Month May 2025: Won by UAE’s Muhammad Waseem and South Africa’s Chloe Tryon
UAE batter Muhammad Waseem and South African all-rounder Chloe Tryon have been named the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for May 2025. Waseem also captains the UAE team claimed the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award after beating out Scotland’s Brandon McMullen and USA’s Milind Kumar. This is the second time he’s won this monthly honour.
Waseem earned the award after a series of strong performances in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 and a memorable T20I series win at home against Bangladesh in May. He scored 169 runs in five ODIs while batting in the middle order, but really shone when the T20I series kicked off in Sharjah.
“I am delighted to win the ICC Player of the Month award for the second time. I want to thank the ICC and all the fans who voted for me. I also want to thank all my team members and support staff as this award is as much for them as it is for me.”
"The month of May brought us a historic series win over Bangladesh in Sharjah. The victory indicates the growth of UAE cricket and the depth of talent in the country. The series was won due to a total team effort and what delighted me the most was the performance of the debutants and the youngsters in the squad who displayed incredible passion and heart." Waseem said.
Waseem got the series off to a great start with a quick 54 from 39 balls seven fours and two sixes even though UAE fell 27 runs short. He then smashed 82 off just 42 balls with nine fours and five sixes, to help chase down 205 and claim UAE’s first T20I win over Bangladesh. The team went on to win the last match and take the series 2–1. With 145 runs at a strike rate of 166.66, Waseem was rightly named Player of the Series. “Now our goal is to keep getting better, beat bigger teams and shine in big tournaments. I believe UAE cricket will keep growing with this group of players,” he said.

Chloe Tryon Shines as ICC Women’s Player of the Month Despite South Africa Missing Final
In the women’s category, South African all-rounder Chloe Tryon was named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for May 2025. She stood out among strong contenders beating West Indies captain Hayley Matthews and India’s Jemimah Rodrigues to take home the award.
“I am really happy with my five-wicket effort and the hat-trick. I was pretty tired most of the time, but I’m happy to have achieved that. You always want to add those milestones to your memories as a cricketer. I’m glad I finally got to tick that off my list. It’s still a bit of a blur, to be honest. I think the team carried me throughout that day. I was a little bit sick, so that didn’t really help much. But everything came together, and I’m just really happy that I could perform and help the team win,” Chloesaid.
Although South Africa didn’t make it to the final of the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka, Chloe Tryon had an impressive month with both bat and ball. In a 23-run loss to India, she scored a quick 67 off 43 balls, hitting four fours and five sixes, and also took 1-46, including the key wicket of Smriti Mandhana. But her standout performance came in South Africa’s last game of the series against Sri Lanka, where she smashed 74 off just 51 balls with four boundaries and five sixes to help post a big total of 315. She then stole the show with the ball, claiming her first-ever five-wicket haul 5 for 34 in eight overs, which included a brilliant hat-trick, leading South Africa to a 76-run win in Colombo.
The all-rounder now hopes to keep up her strong form from Sri Lanka as South Africa heads to the West Indies for a white-ball tour later this month, followed by the 2025 ODI World Cup in India.
“I’m really happy to have finally achieved that milestone. It still feels a bit unreal,” Chloe said in an ICC statement. “The team really supported me that day. I was a bit under the weather, which didn’t help, but everything just came together. I’m just glad I could perform and help the team get the win.”
