After winning the toss, Australia decided to bowl. From the England side, Phil Salt and Ben Duckett opened the innings. In just the second over, Phil Salt was dismissed for a personal score of 10 runs off six balls. He started explosively, hitting back-to-back boundaries, but was later dismissed on Dwarshuis’ delivery.
On the other hand, Ben Duckett looked solid from the start and batted beautifully, scoring 165 runs off 143 balls with a strike rate of 115, hitting 17 fours and 3 sixes. He received support from Joe Root, who scored 68 runs off 78 balls, while no other batter could surpass 25 runs.
In their first match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, England sent a clear message to other teams about their focus by posting a substantial total of 351 runs. On the Australian side, Ben Dwarshuis took the most wickets with 3, while Adam Zampa and Marnus Labuschagne each claimed 2 wickets.
How Josh English Snatched The victory from England?
When Australia came to bat, Travis Head and Matt Short opened the innings for the team. Head was quickly sent back to the pavilion by Jofra Archer, who dismissed him for just 6 runs. Steve Smith also got out in the next over, courtesy of Mark Wood’s delivery. After that, Short and Labuschagne formed a partnership of 95 runs. Following Labuschagne's dismissal at a score of 47 and Matt Short's at 63 in just three overs, it seemed Australia's innings tumbled.
However, after that, Josh Inglis and Alex Carey formed a historic partnership of 146 runs. Josh scored 120 runs off 86 balls, hitting eight boundaries and six sixes, while Carey scored 69 off 63. In the last over, Glenn Maxwell played a cameo of 32 runs off 15 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes. Despite a shaky start, it was Josh Inglis, with the support of Alex Carey, who snatched the match from England in a historic chase, propelling the team into second position in the group.
