Haris Rauf becomes the fastest to 50 BBL wickets

by mishaalmubarak

Not only has Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf reached his 50 Big Bash League (BBL) wickets, but he has also done so quicker than anyone. Rauf, who has been a part of the Melbourne Stars since BBL 09, took 30 matches to reach the milestone.

Coming into the second Melbourne derby game, Haris was just one wicket short of the record, and he did not have to wait long for it. He dismissed Jake-Fraser McGurk off a slower ball in just his second over of the day, breaking Tom Curran’s record of reaching 50 in 33 games.

Quickest to 50 BBL wickets

Haris Rauf – 30 innings

Tom Curran – 33 innings

Rashid Khan – 33 innings

Matthew Kelly – 33 innings

Ben Laughlin – 34 innings

Andrew Tye – 35 innings

Haris ended the innings with 2-31 in four overs, having removed Melbourne Renegades’ captain, Will Sutherland, in the penultimate over. The 32-year-old is now the highest wicket-taker of the BBL 15, leading with 15 wickets at an average of 17.66.

Rizwan and Renegades, look away

While Haris continued to gather praise, his Pakistan teammate, Mohammad Rizwan, had another miserable run with the bat today. The wicketkeeper batter scored 21 off 20 balls before edging the ball to first slip.

Melbourne Stars triumphed over their arch-rivals for the second time this week, putting both Melbourne teams at opposite ends. Stars occupy the second position, while Renegades are second to last, with their playoff chances very slim.
