Gujarat Titans Social Media Post Fuels Speculation on Shubman Gill’s Future and New Captain for IPL 2025

The Gujarat Titans (GT) IPL team, posted a mysterious statement on their social media platforms which created speculations about the team’s plans for the next season. GT were not able to get to the semi-finals in the previous season which was quite surprising given that they were the IPL 2022 champions and the runners-up for the IPL 2023 season.

The rumours started after the captain of the team Hardik Pandya left the Gujarat Titans and joined Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2024 and Shubman Gill was named the new captain. The franchise then posted a photo of Rashid Khan with the caption “a clean slate and a new story,” which made more discussions about the possible change in captaincy for the IPL 2025 season.

Gujarat Titans (GT) retained Rashid Khan for a staggering price of Rs. 18 crore in the IPL 2025 auction which speaks volumes about how important the player is to the team. Alongside him, GT secured Shubman Gill, who was bought for a whopping Rs. 16.50 crore which shows the faith that the team has in the young player. Considering their rather dismal performance in the last IPL season, there have been rumors that the team might change its leadership before the IPL 2025 season. The most notable of these include Rashid Khan who has vast T20 league experience and has been a consistent performer for GT since the 2022 season which makes him a strong candidate for the captaincy.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill is presently in Australia along with Team India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Australia has the upper hand in the series by winning two matches while India is trying to turn the tables around and win the last Test match which will be held at Sydney from 3rd to 7th of January. Gill who was not included in the Boxing Day Test is expected to come back into the XI for this decisive match to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
