Gambhir and BCCI Selectors in Heated Argument Over Pant and Iyer for CT 2025: Report

The highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to kick off on February 19. The Indian team has landed in Dubai along with head coach Gautam Gambhir and the support staff. Meanwhile, Gambhir and BCCI selectors disagree on key squad decisions.
As the tournament approaches, there seem to be differences between Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and the BCCI selectors, led by former cricketer Ajit Agarkar over some squad decisions. According to a report from the Times of India, a heated debate took place during the selection meeting between Gambhir and BCCI selectors. It's mainly about the Pant and whether to include Shreyas Iyer in the squad for the playing XI.
The star wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul played all three ODIs in the recent England series and performed well, but the backup wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant did not get a chance to play a single game. Despite the upcoming Champions Trophy, Pant was benched as Gambhir confirmed Rahul as the first-choice keeper in the press conference during the squad announcement.

Pant's chances took another hit when the team promoted Axar Patel up the batting order for the left-right combination. Axar grabbed the opportunity with his excellent batting by scoring 52 and an unbeaten 41 in the first two ODIs against England.
Meanwhile, there was a question about Shreyas Iyer's spot in the squad before the England series. He got the chance to play in the first ODI as Kohli was injured, where he played an important knock and cleared all air over his spot with his amazing batting in the middle order. He scored 181 runs in the three-match ODI series against England.
Despite squad selection debates, the Indian team looks in good form, whitewashing England 3-0 before the Champions Trophy. Now, they aim to bring the trophy home.
