Fatima Sana hails ICC for promoting women's cricket in Pakistan
Leading Pakistan for a second consecutive World Cup, Pakistan women's captain Fatima Sana eyes more than just a trophy in the upcoming mega-event. The young all-rounder believes her side's form in the upcoming T20 World Cup will have a lasting effect on how people in her country view women's cricket.
Eyeing more than just trophy
Fatima said the ICC has taken plenty of initiatives to do exactly that, but decent outings will garner more interest in women's cricket in Pakistan.
"If we play good cricket in this tournament, I think in Pakistan, people will be supporting us," Sana said.
"I think the ICC takes a lot of initiative about women's cricket, so everyone knows about the game in Pakistan," she stated.
During the recent ICC Boards meeting in Ahmedabad, the global body handed the hosting rights for the 2028 Women's T20 World Cup to Pakistan. This will be the first time the country will hold a women's World Cup.
"And finally, we got the chance to host the next World Cup in Pakistan, so that's also a good thing, so I think a lot really depends on this tournament," she concluded.
Pakistan in Women’s T20 World Cup
Pakistan are in the same group as India, South Africa, Australia, Netherlands, and Bangladesh in the Women's T20 World Cup, set to begin on June 12. Fatima Sana-led side will play their first game against arch-rivals India on June 14 in Birmingham.
