Fakhar, Saim ruled out of Pakistan’s squad for Australia ODIs
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub will not be considered for selection for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. Both top-order batters are currently recovering from their respective injuries and will continue their rehabilitation under the supervision of the PCB medical panel.
PCB continues monitoring recovery process
Fakhar is part of the 28-player training camp organised by the board to prepare for the series. Pakistan are reportedly expected to announce their squad for the series after the conclusion of the camp on May 21.
While the details of their injuries were not revealed by the board, Fakhar Zaman is understood to be recovering from a left knee issue.
The three-match series will begin on May 30 in Rawalpindi, where Australia will play their first ODI in Pakistan since 1994. With their main players engaged in the playoff stages of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australia have named a watered-down squad for the series, including three uncapped players.
Pakistan likely to test PSL performers
Pakistan, in comparison, are mulling over testing some of their Pakistan Super League (PSL) finds in this series but are unlikely to rest their senior players, as per reports. Babar Azam is expected to return to the team after missing the ODI series against Bangladesh earlier this year. Additionally, Pakistan could also hand call-ups to youngsters Hunain Shah and Sufiyan Muqeem after both impressed with their bowling during the PSL.
