England Tour of Sri Lanka 2026: Full ODI And T20I Schedule Ahead of T20 World Cup

The England cricket team has officially confirmed its upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in January-February 2026, as part of their preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The series will feature three ODIs and three T20Is, beginning on January 22, 2026, just two weeks after the conclusion of the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney.

This much-anticipated tour is crucial for England, as it offers its players a chance to transition smoothly from the red-ball grind of the Ashes into white-ball cricket. More importantly, the series will help the team adapt to challenging sub-continent conditions, which will play a vital role in their World Cup campaign.

England Tour of Sri Lanka 2026 – Full Schedule

  • January 22, 2026 – 1st ODI

  • January 24, 2026 – 2nd ODI

  • January 27, 2026 – 3rd ODI

  • January 30, 2026 – 1st T20I

  • February 1, 2026 – 2nd T20I

  • February 3, 2026 – 3rd T20I

Since Sri Lanka will co-host the 2026 T20 World Cup (February–March), these six warm-up matches could be allotted to non-World Cup venues, giving the organizers flexibility and the teams varied playing conditions.

England’s Roadmap to the 2026 T20 World Cup

The white-ball tour of Sri Lanka is one of the four key international assignments lined up for England in the build-up to the World Cup:

  1. September 2025 – England will host South Africa for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.

  2. Soon after, they head to Ireland for a 3-match T20I series.

  3. October–November 2025 – England will tour New Zealand for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is, which runs directly into the start of the Ashes.

  4. Finally, the Sri Lanka tour (Jan–Feb 2026) will act as the last overseas preparation before the World Cup

New Era Under Harry Brook

England’s white-ball journey is now being led by Harry Brook, who has already started his captaincy tenure with series wins against the West Indies in both ODIs and T20Is. However, far sterner challenges await, with the upcoming home series against South Africa, who are currently competing on equal footing with Australia in the latter’s backyard.

The tour of Sri Lanka, given the spin-friendly conditions and humid climate, will be a litmus test for Brook’s men and provide valuable experience ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
