England Name 17-Member Squad for India T20I Series; Phil Salt Returns

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced England’s squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, which starts on July 1 in Durham. England have made very few changes to the squad that played in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The only absentees are Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton, who are unavailable due to injuries. The 17-member team includes James Coles, who became the most expensive buy, £390,000, at the inaugural Men’s The Hundred auction by London Spirit in March.
James Coles Earns Maiden England T20I Call-Up
The all-rounder bats right-handed and bowls left-handed and is the youngest ever debutant for Sussex, at 16 years and 157 days, in first-class cricket. The 22-year-old has already played 61 T20 matches. Coles has scored 1373 runs with a strike rate of 146.37 and has 53 wickets at an economy of 8.27. Cole recently featured for the England Lions and for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the 2025-26 season of the SA20.
“James Coles is an exciting addition and has earned his place following his performances with the England Lions and in T20 competitions here and abroad during the past 12 months. We have selected a larger squad to accommodate the fact that this series will begin shortly after the Test series against New Zealand is due to conclude, which allows us to be flexible,” said England Men’s National Selector Marcus North.
Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker, and Saqib Mahmood have returned to England’s T20I squad as replacements for the injured Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton. None of the three players were part of England’s run to the semifinals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Meanwhile, Phil Salt is set to make his return after recovering from an injury suffered during the IPL 2026 season. The wicketkeeper-batter has not played since April 18.
