Chris Woakes Injury: England Likely to Miss Remainder of 5th Test vs India

by Staff Writer

England's cricket team suffered a significant blow on Day 1 of the fifth Test against India, with all-rounder Chris Woakes sustaining a shoulder injury. Woakes, who claimed the wicket of KL Rahul, was seen clutching his left shoulder in pain. Medical staff attended to him, and he left the field with his arm in a makeshift sling, fashioned from his sweater.

Woakes' injury is a major concern for the team, especially with captain Ben Stokes already ruled out due to a shoulder injury. England's woes deepened when Woakes fell awkwardly while trying to prevent a boundary. Gus Atkinson, a key member of the England setup, expressed his concerns, stating, "It doesn't look great. We haven't really spoken about it yet. I will be surprised if he takes any part in the game."

India, on the other hand, reached 204/6, with Karun Nair scoring an unbeaten fifty and Washington Sundar contributing with 19 not out. Ollie Pope, leading England in Stokes' absence, won the toss and chose to field, marking the fifth time in the series that India captain Gill Gill has lost the toss and the 15th consecutive international match where India has been on the wrong side of the coin toss. "As long as we are winning the match, I don't mind losing the toss," India's captain remarked.
