by UMMADI JAYA

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the match umpires for the Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from February 19 to March 9. The tournament, playing eight teams, will be played across Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in Pakistan, as well as Dubai in the UAE.

ICC has selected 12 umpires for the Champions Trophy. Richard Kettleborough is a senior umpire who has officiated in 108 Men’s ODI matches. Kettleborough, who stood in the final of the last Champions Trophy in 2017 in the UK, is one of six umpires returning for another edition of the tournament.

Other returning umpires include Chris Gaffaney, Kumar Dharmasena, Richard Illingworth, Paul Reiffel, and Rod Tucker, all of whom were part of the 2017 Champions Trophy.

Alongside Kettleborough and Illingworth, who also officiated together in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad, the list includes Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Ahsan Raza, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Alex Wharf, and Joel Wilson, all of whom were also part of the World Cup officiating team in India.

The match referees are David Boon, Ranjan Madugalle, and Andrew Pycroft, who officiated the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy, and Pycroft, who also officiated in the tournament, will be joined by Madugalle, who returns after officiating the final in 2013.

Sean Easey, ICC Senior Manager said, “We are pleased to announce our panel of match officials for the upcoming Men’s Champions Trophy. This is a credentialled officiating team whose expertise will be valuable in this high-profile tournament.

“We always try to name the most suitable and deserving officials for any event, and we are confident this group will do a fine job across the matches in Pakistan and the UAE.

“I wish them all the best and hope they have a memorable tournament.”
