Big Update: Is Virat Kohli Set to Captain RCB in IPL 2025?
Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) faced criticism for their strategy during the IPL mega auction, particularly for not bidding heavily on players like Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul, despite widespread speculation that they would target them. Following the auction, reports suggested that Virat Kohli would continue as RCB's captain.
In an interview with Sports Tak, RCB's COO, Rajesh Menon, was asked if Virat Kohli would continue as captain for the 2025 IPL season.
He said, "At the moment, no decision has been made. We have a strong leadership group within the team, with 4-5 potential leaders. We haven't had detailed discussions yet, but we'll evaluate everything and come to a decision in due course."
Virat Kohli was the captain of the RCB team from 2011 to 2023. under his captaincy team played 143 matches in the IPL won 66 games and lost 70 when Kohli was the leader. In 2016, they came to the finals. Also, Kohli is the highest scorer of the season 973 runs.
Menon said, “We were very clear in terms of what kind of gaps we have and what all we need to fulfill and what is the Indian core that we require to build, and if you want to play in M Chinnaswamy (Stadium), what kind of bowling attack we require. And that is what we did."
“If you see Day 1, it was low-key for us. People thought we were not participating in the auction, but at the end of Day 2, everybody, right from fans to experts, felt saying what we have done is the best because we have covered all the gaps, and I think we have got one of the best teams."
In the IPL 2025 mega auction, RCB made some moves like Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Tim David, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jitesh Sharma, Devdutt Padikkal, Josh Hazlewood, Romario Shepherd, Nuwan Thushara, and Suyash Sharma, among others.
