Beth Mooney once again showed why she’s one of Australia’s best in tough moments. The star batter scored her first-ever century in Women’s World Cups in an incredible rescue innings in Colombo. Australia were in trouble at 76 for 7 against Pakistan, but Mooney’s brilliant century helped them reach a solid 221 on Wednesday. Beth Mooney walked into bat after Australia lost both their openers for the score of 30.

The left-hander began in typical fashion, keeping the scoreboard ticking. However all hell broke lose soon after. From 55/2, Australia lost 5 wickets for the space of just 21 runs.

Beth Mooney’s Century Helps Australia Recover Against Pakistan

Mooney watched on from the other end as the defending champions crumbled, possibly into an upset. She wasn’t finished yet. Mooney joined forces with Kim Garth to stop the wickets from falling quickly. Their 35-run stand helped Australia get back into the game and keep their hopes alive.

After Garth got out, Alana King came in, and Mooney found the perfect partner to keep the innings alive. Mooney reached her fifty in the 34th over, with Australia still struggling under 120. She then took control, batting confidently alongside King. Together, they added 106 runs off just 97 balls. Mooney reached her century in the 48th over and was finally out on the very last ball of the innings for 109. Her innings gave Australia a real chance to fight back in the game.
