BCCI to Tighten IPL Rules for Families While Restricting Player Girlfriends

BCCI has announced new regulations which would be applied to IPL to make it more professional and increase player's discipline. The primary issue is who could stay with the players at the hotels.
BCCI to Enforce Stricter Off-Field Conduct Rules for IPL Player
Usually, wives and relatives of the players could stay with them at the hotels, but lately, there were some cases when players stayed with their girlfriends. Such actions are unacceptable, according to the board, as they may distract them from playing and increase corruption.
BCCI official said that,
“We are discussing this among ourselves. It will be discussed in the next BCCI meeting. There is no problem with wives and family members staying in the hotel with the players, but we will have to be a little more serious about girlfriends,"
the official added that,
“We made this rule, and something will have to be done regarding the IPL too. Previously in IPL, girlfriends were not allowed to stay in players’ hotels, but now it has become a trend. I spoke to an officer from the IPL’s anti-corruption unit about this, and he told us that we have been asked to allow wives and ‘officially announced girlfriends’ to stay together,"
The board is also afraid of the anti-corruption threat and possible leaks in social media since partners could accidentally post confidential information. To eliminate these threats, BCCI plans to adopt strict rules.
An officer in the IPL’s anti-corruption unit said that,
“Sir, we’re just doing it that way. It’s certain that the BCCI will now introduce stricter rules regarding whether or not to stay with a girlfriend,
The idea is to formulate one unified regulation which would apply to each of the ten teams in the league. Though they are privately-owned companies, BCCI considers it important to establish common standards of discipline and integrity for players and officials of all the teams in the league.
