BCCI Moves to Clear Air Between Mohammed Shami and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar

by IPL Web Desk

Mohammed ShamiThe BCCI is trying to sort out the issue with Mohammed Shami. Recently, Shami denied Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar’s claim that he was not fit to play. Agarkar had said that’s why Shami hasn’t played for India since the 2025 Champions Trophy. But Shami said no one from the selectors told him anything and asked how he could play in the Duleep Trophy and for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy if he was really unfit.

“About giving an update, it’s not my responsibility to give or ask for one. It’s not my job to share updates about my fitness. My job is to go to the NCA (National Cricket Academy), train and play matches. That’s their matter, not mine,” Shami said.

Agarkar said he had spoken to Shami several times in the last few months and that the medical team felt Shami wasn’t fit to play international cricket right now. He also mentioned that Team India wanted Shami in the squad for the tours of Australia and England, but it didn’t work out. Shami didn’t take this well and hit back after taking seven wickets against Uttarakhand, saying, “Let him say whatever he wants.”

To keep the situation from getting worse, the BCCI sent newly appointed selector Rudra Pratap Singh from the Central Zone to Kolkata.

As per Sportskeeda, RP Singh had a long talk with Shami after the second day’s play in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat at Eden Gardens. Both RP and Shami are from Uttar Pradesh and although Shami moved to Bengal to chase his cricket dreams, the BCCI hopes this regional connection will help calm things down.
