Rohit Sharma to lead India in Champions TrophyOn Saturday, India's captain Rohit Sharma, the head coach Gautam Gambhir, and Ajit Agarkar, the national selection committee chairman, attended for meeting at a hotel in South Mumbai for a nearly three-hour discussion. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organized the important meeting because India did not perform well against Australia, losing the test series 1-3.

In the meeting, the new upcoming Secretary for BCCI Devajit Saikia, along with the past Secretary, Jay Shah attended with the team's management to sort out why things didn't go as planned during the Australia tour. They took an early win in Perth but then India didn't win the five-match Test series. Despite this, it's been said that the board doesn't have any major changes in the team, especially since the Champions Trophy is coming very soon.

Rohit Sharma to Lead India in Champions Trophy Campaign

There was no discussion about reconfiguring the team's support staff. Rohit Sharma is expected to stay on as the Captain, and along with Virat Kohli, they're both likely to play in the Champions Trophy team. According to a source, “The discussions were focused on setting the right plans for the future.”

The Indian team just went through a rough couple of months. First, they lost a Test series at home against New Zealand and then were badly beaten by Australia too. In the meeting, they discussed how the coaches should help out, and what steps to take to make things better in Test cricket.

Jay Shah Honored for ICC Chairmanship

At the event, Jay Shah received a lot of praise from the BCCI because he had been elected as the chairman of the International Cricket Council. State cricket groups had officials show up for his special recognition time. VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy also attended the meeting.

The five-member selection committee held a meeting yesterday evening to discuss the players for the upcoming Champions Trophy. They are expected to announce the final squad in about a week, after submitting the provisional team list to the ICC to meet the deadline. The Champions Trophy is starting on February 19 and games will happen in both Pakistan and the UAE.
