BCCI Hikes Match Fees for Women Domestic Cricketers, Moves Closer to Equal Pay

The BCCI has finally taken a long-needed step. It has approved a big increase in match fees for women domestic cricketers. Because of this, women players will now earn almost the same as men in India’s domestic cricket. It was already the case on the international level. In its Apex Council meeting on Monday, it was decided that for the senior women’s domestic tournaments, players featuring in the final XI will receive Rs. 50,000 per day, while Rs. 25000 will be given per day to the reserves.

For T20 matches, players who are in the playing XI will get ₹25,000 per match, while reserve players will get ₹12,500. In junior women’s tournaments, players in the playing XI will earn ₹25,000 per day, and reserve players will earn ₹12,500 per day. For T20 matches, the fees will be Rs. 11,500 for the playing XI and Rs. 6,250 for being in reserves.
To help women’s cricket grow, the BCCI believes that paying higher match fees will encourage more players to take up the sport. While it’s a significant rise for the women’s game, there’s still quite a bit of difference between men’s and women’s cricket pay structure.
The BCCI currently pays Rs. 60,000 a day to a player who has played more than 40 Ranji games, Rs. 50,000 to those who have played between 21 and 40 games and Rs. 40,000 for those who’ve featured in 20 games or fewer, with the reserves earning Rs 30,000, Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 20,000 in the respective categories.
