BCCI Announces ₹51 Crore Reward After India’s Historic Women’s World Cup 2025 Win

The Indian Cricket Board on Monday announced a huge cash reward for the Indian women’s cricket team after their historic ODI World Cup win over South Africa.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the players and support staff will together receive prize money of ₹51 crore to celebrate their remarkable achievement. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final of the Women’s World Cup, sealing their place in cricketing history.

In a high-stress match, the Indian side have composure to outplay Laura Wolvaardt's team with an impressive all-around performance. India Shafali Verma was the standout player of the final match, and starred with the bat and the ball. She made the team late as a replacement for Pratika Rawal, during the tournament, and contributed a sensational knock of 87 runs, in the final, with some scary shots. With the ball, she snagged two important wickets, Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp, in the middle overs and gave India the control of the match.
“Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah announced a 300 percent increase in women’s prize money. Earlier, the prize fund was 3.88 million dollars, which has now been raised to 14 million dollars. In addition, the BCCI has decided to reward the entire Indian team — players, coaches, selectors, and support staff — with a total of Rs 51 crore,” Devajit Saikia said in an interview with ANI.
Record Prize Money and Equal Pay Mark Historic 2025 Women’s World Cup
The ICC Women’s World Cup announced a record prize pool before the tournament. India received a huge reward of Rs 37.3 crore from the ICC. This is the biggest-ever prize in the tournament’s history, about 239% more than what Australia got in 2022, which was around Rs 11 crore. The total prize pool for the 2025 Women's World Cup stands at Rs 116 crore, nearly three times higher than the Rs 29 crore distributed in the 2022 tournament in New Zealand.
This year's event is unique because the ICC is providing equal prize money for the first time for both the men's and women's World Cups, pointing towards their commitment to equality for men and women. The total prize money is greater than the Rs 84 crore offered for the 2023 Men's World cup.
