BCB Asks to Move World Cup Matches: Logistics, BCCI and Government Role in Focus
The ICC may be ready to listen to the BCB’s request to move Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches out of India. The board is worried about security and comfort for their players and fans. ICC has not made a final decision yet, but talks are possible, and nothing has been ruled out.
Bangladesh Seeks Shift of T20 World Cup Matches from India to Sri Lanka Amid Safety Concerns
The ICC has not made any decision yet. There has been no official meeting, especially since today is Sunday. But as per Cricbuzz, the ICC is open to the idea of moving Bangladesh’s World Cup matches to Sri Lanka, which is also hosting the tournament.
However, it would be necessary to make a certain adjustment in the schedule in view of the shift, which can be achieved in the next couple of days. The Bangladesh side finds itself in Group C together with England, West Indies, Nepal, and Italy, and are scheduled to play all their league matches in India, three in Kolkata and the remaining in Mumbai.

Earlier, the BCB called an emergency meeting in Dhaka and signed a resolution that the Bangladesh side would not go to India for the tournament. "Taking into consideration the comprehensive analysis of the prevailing situation and the increasing concerns in regards to the safety and security of the Bangladesh contingent in India and after taking the advice of the Bangladesh Government, it has been decided by the Board of Directors that the Bangladesh National Team will not be visiting India for the tournament under the present circumstances," said the BCB in a press release. "
The statement continued,
"In view of the decision that has been made, the BCB has formally requested that the International Cricket Council (ICC), as the event authority, relocate all Bangladesh cricket matches to a different site outside of India."
This came as they waited for a timely response. The position with regard to the Bangladesh board is obviously an aftermath of the directive by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman due to some "recent developments" that have occurred in the country.
The BCCI failed to elaborate on such recent developments, but obviously, these include reported Hindu minority deaths in Bangladesh. Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the trio of Bangladesh matches, West Indies on the 7th, Italy on the 9th, and England on the 14th.
The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will host their match against minnows Nepal on the 17th. The World Cup will take place from February 7 to March 8 in eight centres spread across India and Sri Lanka.
